London: With Manchester City set to beat Chelsea in the Champions League final on Saturday, skipper Fernandinho believes the team has managed to reach a standard that is perhaps one of the highest, and it will further motivate the boys if they the field in the final.
‘There was still the stigma of the fact that the team had never made it through to the finals before, that we were an inexperienced team in this competition. But I think our team has managed to reach a high standard this season, both on a technical level and in terms of experience, and also on several other factors.
“Over the course of the season we have overcome a lot of problems, and now we have reached a standard that is perhaps one of the highest that this team has ever been able to reach. “It really is a happy moment, a great honor, and there is no doubt that it will motivate you even more,” he said, reports mancity.com.
“We always have to give 100 percent, 100 percent of the time, and I think in a game like that, nothing less than 200 percent will be enough to win it.”
The Brazilian played an important role in the set-up as leader and says reading the match is an important role in light of the second game of City’s semi-final against PSG.
‘It’s a matter of reading the game and understanding what’s going on at that moment. Since I am a captain and the oldest player of the club, this is undoubtedly the point when you have to act and try to organize things for the benefit of the team.
“Sometimes it’s easy for someone to lose their head when they’re under a lot of stress or pressure, and that’s why I tried to stop players from falling into this trap so as not to harm the team’s performance,” he explained. (ANI)
