Amritsar, May 25

The SGPC has decided to move ahead with its plans to make religious films but under the ambit of Sikh ‘rehat maryada’ as directed by Akal Takht.

A day after objections were raised over the move, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said digital and electronic media were the modern source of learning for the youth and had a wider reach.

As per Akal Takht directions, no actor could portray any of the 10 Sikh gurus, their parents, their wives and children on screen in living form. “In our films, the Guru will be symbolically depicted with a voiceover of Gurbani verses. Absolutely no one will be playing the Guru’s character,” she said. — TNS
