Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Dr. G N Itoo in a consultative meeting took a comprehensive assessment of the issues confronting tourism stakeholders in the pandemic situation with the representatives of different tourism trade bodies today.
The Director, Tourism told the tourism stakeholders that the UT Government has arranged the tourism stakeholders as frontline workers together with workers of other critical sectors.
At the meeting, Dr. Itoo informed that from today, the vaccination process for the tourism staffs aged between 18 to 44 years has started at TRC, Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Today 871 jabs (Gulmarg-421, TRC, Srinagar-203 and Pahalgam-247) were administered among the staff of hotels, guest houses, travel agencies, Restaurants, Houseboats and shikarawallas.
For the coming four days, the vaccination drive will continue and will cover all the eligible tourism stakeholders.
To look into this process, a special committee has been developed in the Tourism Department. Nodal Officers have also been deployed for smoothly administering the vaccination doses.
Besides, the Director Tourism has also informed the tourism stakeholders that the Department has thought of a capacity building programme for all the members of tourism trade to cope up with the post COVID situation. The programme, he informed, would commence from the coming days.
The Director Tourism, Kashmir, has also informed at the meeting that the Department is all set to upscale Sonmarg as a winter tourist destination. For this, all necessary steps are being taken by the Department at various levels.
