One killed, another injured in tree falling incidents in Keonjhar, Balasore districts

Keonjhar/Balasore: A person was killed and another injured critically in two separate tree falling incidents in Keonjhar and Balasore districts during the landfall of cyclone ‘Yaas’ Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Purna Chnadra Naik, a resident of Talasahi of Panchupali village under Anandapur block in Koenjhar district while the injured as a 20-year-old youth of Railway Colony in Balasore town.

According to a source, Naik was going to a nearby shop during when the landfall process was on. Suddenly a banyan tree uprooted and fell on him. Though he was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared him received dead.

In the second incident, a youth was sleeping near his mother and two sisters in their house in Railway Colony when a tree got uprooted and fell on their house. While, his mother and sisters managed to run out of the house immediately after the mishap, the youth was not able to make it and remained trapped under the debris.

After coming to know about the incident, local police with the help of fire personnel rushed to the spot. They rescued the youth and admitted him to a nearby government hospital.
