Stalin hikes special covid assistance to Rs 5,000 for media, Rs 10 lakh solatium in case of death

Chennai, May 26 (UNI) Days after classifying media personnel as

COVID frontline workers, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin

today announced a special incentive of Rs 5,000 to all accredited

media persons in the State.

In a statement here, he said the previous AIADMK government had

paid Rs 3,000 to the media people as a special assistance.

'It has now been increased to Rs 5,000', he said.

He also announced that a Government Order has been issued enhancing

the solatium from Rs five lakh to Rs ten lakh to the media persons in the

event of their death due to COVID.

This will be applicable to all the media personnel including those working

in TV channels, photographers and camerapersons, accredited by the

government in any form like accreditation card, identity card issued by the

district collector or holding free bus pass.

Noting that the media acts as a bridge between the people and the

government, Mr Stalin urged all the media personnel to take all

precautionary measures will discharging their duty in this pandemic

situation.
