Apple's recently released iOS 14.6 update seems to have improved Shortcuts' performance. A number of users have shared on Twitter and Reddit that they have noticed their shortcuts getting executed relatively faster. The time difference is specifically noticeable if you have a shortcut made up of numerous actions.
The report mentions that a shortcut with 700 actions was executed by iOS 14.6 within only 13 seconds. The same shortcut used to take about half a minute on the older iOS 14.5 version. There is no doubt that the Shortcuts app has received a performance boost which is can be almost as high as twice.
The folks over at 9to5Mac also did their own testing and noticed a performance boost. They tested a shortcut with 380 actions that took about 8 minutes on an iPhone 12 Mini running iOS 14.5.1. It was completed in only 4 seconds on an iPhone 12 Pro running the latest iOS 14.6 build.
It should be noted that when iOS 14.6 was released earlier this week, Apple did not mention anything about Shortcuts' performance improvement in the official changelog. It said that the update will bring AirTag support enhancements, Apple Card Family support, and paid subscriptions within the Apple Podcasts application. These changes are applicable to both iPhone and iPad devices.
