A Dalit youth was “tied, thrashed, forced to drink urine and his head tonsured” after he was allegedly caught with a girl at his house on Monday in Malout town.

Sources said the girl, too, belonged to the same community and was a resident of the same area.

A video of the boy’s head being shaved publicly has gone viral on the social media. Meanwhile, the police have started an investigation. The boy is currently admitted to the Civil Hospital.

A cousin of the victim said: “A large number of people from the girl’s family tied up my brother, thrashed him, forced him to drink urine and shaved his head publicly. The girl had actually come to his house and even brought some gifts like chocolates and a mobile phone. Her family did not like it. They did not question her, but mercilessly thrashed my brother. Later, the police rescued him. We demand strict action against the girl’s family.”

Malout (City) SHO Mohan Lal said: “We had visited the spot and rescued the boy yesterday. He is admitted to the local Civil Hospital. It seems the couple was in a relationship, but there was nothing like this when our team reached the spot. We will take action after getting the report from the hospital.”
