Raipur: Chhattisgarh-based medical experts warned of more cases of ‘Black Fungus’ (Mucormycosis) in the state in the coming days. The total cases have now reached 129, Dr Subash Mishra, Director (Epidemic), said on Monday.

Dr Mishra told the media that the experts have advised all those having uncontrolled diabetes who took Covid treatment with steroids and experimental medicines to go for a check-up immediately. Such patients can approach the nearest hospital. If detected with "Black Fungus", they will be referred to Medical colleges for admission and treatment. He said the disease takes 4-6 weeks to spread and early detection is the only mode to reduce the mortality as cure is possible.

Meanwhile, 24 patients in AIIMS Raipur and six in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Medical College Hospital have been operated, said Dr Mishra. The maximum cases of ‘Black Fungs’ have been reported from Raipur, Durg and districts where the highest number of Covid positive cases were reported, he added. He said the government is taking all steps to ensure that adequate medicines and treatment are provided to the patients. The government is providing free treatment and medicines under national and state health schemes.
