Well-known poet and MANUU academic Khalid Saeed is no longer there

Hyderabad: Well-known Urdu writer and academic Prof Khalid Saeed passed away this morning after cardiac arrest at NIMS.

He was 71. Born in Bidar, he had most of his life in Gulbarga. Both cities now in Karnataka were part of the Nizam state of Hyderabad. He was affiliated with the Maulana Azad National Urdu University which he joined in 2004. He had a supernatural in 2015 and lived in Hyderabad.

He was deeply involved in teaching Urdu to both Urdu and non-Urdu speakers. He became popular in Hyderabad after holding short courses for learning Urdu. These classes were held at Masab Tank as the learners were reluctant to travel to the MANUU headquarters in the far Gachibowli. He served the University in various capacities.

He is the author of two volumes of poetry Shab Rang-e-Numu and Chand Se Baatein. After the publication of his first book, he joined a university college in Bidar as a lecturer.

His workbook which teaches the Urdu script according to phonetics and structures has been used by many academics from (united) Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi.

His last public appearance was in Urdu Hall – Himayat Nagar on March 13, where he spoke about Hyderabadi writer Aziz Ahmed.

His body was taken to Gulbarga for the last rites.
