Cyclone Yaas, which originated from the Bay of Bengal, has turned into a severe cyclonic storm. It will hit the coast of Odisha this afternoon. Most parts of Odisha and West Bengal are receiving rains with strong winds due to cyclonic storm Yas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of rain and strong winds in many states. These include Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh as well. According to the Meteorological Department, rains will continue in these states today.
According to the Meteorological Department, the Yas storm will affect West Bengal. IMD DG Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that heavy to very heavy rains are expected at different places in West Bengal today. With this, there will be heavy to very heavy rains in Jharkhand today and tomorrow. There will be heavy rains at different places. IMD DG Mrityunjay Mohapatra also said that heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places in Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim today and tomorrow. With this, there is a possibility of heavy rains at different places in Assam and Meghalaya today.
Bihar is also expected to receive heavy rains due to the Yas storm on Wednesday and Thursday. Nawada, Jamui, Gaya, Bhabhua, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Aurangabad districts of Bihar are expected to remain cloudy for the next 5 days. Given this, officers of many districts have been alerted. At the same time, according to IMD, in most of the districts of Uttar Pradesh, there is a possibility of rain along with thunderstorms between May 26 and May 28. From Wednesday, strong winds will start blowing in many districts of UP. The impact of the Yas storm will be seen in districts like Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Lucknow.
