KCR agrees to explore 15% honors for medical students, doctors doctors

Hyderabad: In response to the strike by junior doctors working in state hospitals, Prime Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Wednesday decided to increase the honorarium paid to senior residents by 15 percent. He also instructed officials to ensure that better medical facilities are provided to junior doctors and their family members at the state-run Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

In a statement from his office, KCR, the junior doctors asked to strike their strike, taking into account the general public health and the continuing COVID-19 pandemic in Telangana. He advised them to ‘get on with their duties immediately’. The prime minister also claimed that the state government “never discriminated against junior doctors” and added that he was ready to resolve their demands now.

The prime minister held a review meeting on Wednesday at his camp outside Pragati Bhavan here with officials from the medical and health department across the state. Senior and junior doctors of state hospitals in Telangana boycotted work today as the government did not meet their demands, which were previously promised by Prime Minister KCR, not even COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 6,000 senior and junior doctors in the state representing 15 government hospitals, including Gandhi, Osmania, MGMH Warangal and others, today boycotted their duties and demanded that the government meet their demands immediately, and they will continue to resign to boycott until the requirements are met.

The other grievance, as quoted by the association president, was that health workers and their family members could not get a bed for treatment. “NIMS is always working on limited beds and we urge you to increase bed capacity and issue a circular for free treatment for health workers and their families,” said Dr. Rahul said.
