MUMBAI: A woman was duped of her gold bangles worth Rs 2.12 lakh allegedly by two men posing as policemen in Mumbai's Powai area on Wednesday.
Rukhsana Shaikh, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Andheri (E), was on her way to buy grocery when the two bike-borne men approached her and introduced themselves as policemen.
In her complaint, the woman said, “The men informed me that three to four cases of theft had occurred in the area since morning and it was unsafe for her to wear heavy jewellery in public. They asked me keep it in my bag. The accused told me that since they have to keep an account of all the jewellery, they checked the bangle and my purse and put the purse back in the bag.”
Meanwhile, another man approached the duo and handed over his chain to them, which was returned to him. After that, the two men sped away towards Marol, she alleged.
“Shaikh got suspicious and checked her purse and realised that her bangles were missing. She informed her son about the incident who then called the police control room and got the case registered,” said the police.
“ A team has been formed to track the duo who are suspected to be the members of Irani gang which is involved in similar cases,” a police officer said.
