Most people are praying for a change in weather over the coming weeks but Ado McGuinness is keeping his fingers crossed for further deluges of rain as he primes dual Group Three winner A Case Of You for a tilt at Royal Ascot next month.

Group One success in the Commonwealth Cup would be a career-defining moment for McGuinness and the Dublin trainer has faith in the recent Goffs Lacken Stakes winner if conditions continue to deteriorate.

“It’s all systems go. He was good at Naas and I think he’ll improve again. We gave him a bit of a break after he was beaten in the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown, so we weren’t overly hard on him,” McGuinness said of the 16/1 shot to the Racing Post.

“The horse is in great form, he’s gleaming and we’re looking forward to going across the water to take these colts on and see how good he is. You’d have to say that if we got a wet week he’d have a serious chance.”

The Lusk handler could have a five-strong team for the Royal meeting as his star continues to go from strength to strength in the training ranks with Saltonstall, Bowerman, Laugh A Minute and Harry’s Bar other possible contenders throughout the five-day extravaganza from June 15-19.

“We’ve entered Harry’s Bar for the Group Ones and the Wokingham. His performance was very good last time, only beaten three-quarters of a length when giving 18lb to Mooneista. He could have an entry in Cork but we’ll see where the fastest ground is.

“We’ll wait until we get closer to the time on our other entries. Laugh A Minute was a bit disappointing in the Greenlands Stakes when he didn’t get the run of the race from off the pace.”
