Vaccination for 18-44 age group begins in Madurai

MADURAI: The Madurai Corporation on Tuesday rolled out vaccination for people in the 18-44 age group.
Special camps began at corporation main building, Pudur, Ansari Nagar, Munichalai and Thideer Nagar. The camps were conducted for volunteers, drivers and others working during the lockdown period and traders engaged in selling vegetables at doorsteps as they are considered a high risk group.
Commercial taxes minister P Moorthy inspected vaccination in Madurai corporation’s main building. Corporation commissioner S Visakan and district collector Aneesh Sekhar also took part in the inspection.
Officials said the corporation had received 57,000 doses to vaccinate the 18 -44 age category. Vaccination for this category would be done separately from the 45 and above category. Vaccines or the 18-44 category is bought by the state government whereas the central government is sponsoring vaccines for 45 and above people.
