PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Tuesday arrested a man on the charge of trespassing into a flat belonging to prominent Marathi film actor's father in Nigdi.
The actor's father sustained stitches on his both hands.
"The man who had entered the 63-year-old victim's house with an intent to commit burglary, attacked the actor's father with a knife when the latter resisted him. We have recovered the knife, toy gun, chilli powder and a rope from the suspect Ajay Shetge (25) of Beed district," assistant inspector Virendra Chavan of Nigdi police told TOI.
Shetge is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital after he was beaten up by the residents.
An officer from the Nigdi police said, "Shetge claimed that he is the diehard fan of the actor and had gone to her to house to talk to her through video call as currently actor is not in the country."
When contacted the actor's father told TOI, "The fan never visit with knife and gun. I have sustained stitches on my both hands. I have filed an FIR and currently not in a condition to talk."
Api Chavan said that the incident happened around 7am in Nigdi Pradhikaran. "According to the complaint, the suspect barged into his flat located on the second floor. He sprayed some chemical on his face and also assaulted him with a knife. He then told him to handover his wife's ornaments," Chavan said.
He said that in the meantime, the neighbours and the Watchman of the society overpowered the man and informed the police. "The man who was later identified as Shetge, admitted to the hospital as he too has sustained injuries," Chavan said.
Chavan said, "We are yet to question Shetge. We have booked him under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery), 452 (house trespass) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code."
