French Open 2021 Qualifiers: After Ankita Raina & Ramanathan, Sumit Nagal wins opening match in Roland Garros- Top India singles player Sumit Nagal on Tuesday defeated a thumping win against 191st ranked Roberto Marcora of Italy in the opening match of the Roland Garros. He won the match 6-3, 6-3 in his quest to progress to the next round of the Paris showpiece event. The 23-year-old will next face Alejandro Tabilo of Chile.

The Jhajjar-born Indian, who competed at the Australian Open this year, has come into the tournament after playing two Challenger-level events, where he made the quarter-finals.

Sumit Nagal has participated in all four majors. His best include 2nd round finish in the US Open 2020. He has won 13 singles titles: ATP Challenger 2 and ITF Futures 9. The 23-year-old is one of the biggest hope for India after Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the French Open 2021.

His rival Roberto Marcora had fared better in Grand Slams but Nagal ensured he produced his top game.

French Open: When will the Roland Garros tournament take place? 

The French Open main draws begin on 30th May, with the women’s final slated for 12th June and the men’s final for 13th June
