BISD offering vaccines to students, families

Beaumont ISD is teaming up with Walgreens to provide vaccine shots to students 12-and-up, parents, families and staff.

The push comes as schools in June will be required to end mask requirements — one result of an executive order signed last week by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

“BISD has two partners we are working with to provide vaccinations for students,” BISD Health Coordinator Julie Nezat told The Enterprise last week. “We are currently collaborating with Legacy and Walgreens to provide clinics for students.”

The clinic will offer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to staff members, students ages 12 and older and their families.

Parent presence is preferred for those aged 18 and under. All students must have a signed permission form. The form can be found digitally on the Walgreens website by searching “COVID vaccine form” and clicking “print vaccine consent form” in the middle of the page and on-site at the clinic.

To make an appointment, visit the district’s Facebook page and scan the QR code to be taken to the vaccine sign up page. Walk-ins will be accepted while supplies last.

The Pfizer vaccine was authorized for use by children 12 and older earlier this month.

As of May 16, about 270,000 Texans under 18 had received at least one dose of the vaccine — roughly 50,000 of whom were below age 16, according to state health officials.
