Chandigarh, May 24
Mucormycosis (black fungus) patient load is now increasing in the city hospitals as 62 such patients were admitted to various hospitals till this evening.
Of 62 patients admitted to city hospitals, 10 belong to Chandigarh. The city hospitals are left with only one day stock of amphotericin B, which is used to treat the fungal infection,
“We have placed an order for 2,000 vials of liposomal amphotericin B injection (used for the treatment of mucormycosis) with the Mylan company costing about Rs 1.2 crore. To ensure the early receipt of medicines for mucormycosis/black fungus, we followed Punjab tender rates and placed orders for urgent supply. The city is left with only 50 vials now. We are expecting the order in a week. Till then, doctors have been advised to look for alternative drug,” said Adviser Manoj Parida. — TNS
