Google has now expanded Google News Showcase for desktop users. The special program debuted in October 2020 and was limited to mobile users. It is a special product and licensing program by Google with a $1 billion investment to bring quality journalism to the masses.
On the desktop, it is accessible from the Google News website through a dedicated section called News Showcase. It can also be visiting the special URL link that will directly open the link. The section will show you news pieces from publications relevant to your particular region. It should be noted that News Showcase is currently available only in the United Kingdom., Australia, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Czechia, and India.
There will basically be different cards with each card dedicated to a particular news publication. It will show some of the top headlines that you can look a glance. If you wish to read all news articles from a particular publication, you will simply need to click on its name at the top. There is also a "Follow" button to help you follow your preferred news sources.
One of the things that make Google News Showcase worthwhile is that it features various publications that are paid. It means if it was not for this program, you would have to pay for reading news articles from those news sources. This is where Google's $1 billion investment comes into the picture as it pays on the behalf of all Google News users.
