Coronavirus India Cases: Fresh Cases Drop Below 2 Lakh For The First Time Since April 14

Fresh cases of Covid-19 in India fell below 2 lakh for the first time since April 14, in welcome relief to a healthcare system battling the world’s second largest outbreak.

Just over 1.96 lakh people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on May 25. Recoveries during the same period were significantly higher at 3.27 lakh.

As a result, active cases dropped to 25.87 lakh, which still accounts for nearly 10% of the nation’s total caseload.

India’s daily fatality rate, however, remained high at 3,511. A total of 3.07 lakh patients have succumbed to the illness in the country so far.

To be sure, data on Covid-19 cases and related deaths may be severely deficient as several states have inadequate testing, chronic underreporting and have been attributing the casualties to other causes.
