Google is launching its own Fuchsia OS on Nest Hub

Google’s Fuchsia is now running on Made by Google devices, such as the first-generation Nest Hub. An update regarding the same will be rolled out to the owners of the Nest Hub which was launched back in 2018. The inclusion of Fuchsia will not change the functionality of the Nest Hub, but it will just be powered by the Fuchsia OS, instead of its previous Cast OS. The user will basically feel no difference as the display is built with Flutter which is designed in such a way that it can bring apps to various other platforms as well.

Earlier this month, Google moved from including Fuchsia in its internal testing process to something that could be accessed by the general public. The upcoming update for the Nest Hub will be rolled out slowly in the coming months. Those who already are a member of the Preview Program will get the update first and then move onto the larger audience.

Google has made it a point to emphasize that the users will not even feel a difference when they switch their Nest Hub to run on Fuchsia OS, but the company has also pointed out that it might take a long time for the update to reach everyone.

Fuchsia, in itself, marks a huge step for Google as the company had built it from scratch, and it is an OS that is not Linux based. Now that the tech giant is taking a step forward with the inclusion of Fuchsia OS, Google can introduce it in smart home systems.

The smart home is just one of the many domains where Google could include Fuchsia. Later the company is hoping that desktops and smartphones (including natively running Android apps) too could run on their very own OS in the near future.
