Man kills friend over illicit relationship
A 40-year-old man from Nalasopara town in the Palghar district of Maharashtra was allegedly killed by his friend on Monday over suspicion of the deceased's illicit relationship with a woman, police said. The victim was found lying in a pool, of blood at the residence of his friend, an official said, adding that the accused is on the run. MUMBAI: Despite the Centre not giving the go-ahead for vaccination of pregnant women, the BMC on Monday issued an order stating that pregnant women can get vaccinated by submitting a letter from a gynaecologist and their own consent in writing. Lactating women don't need any of the above and can simply walk into vaccination centres and get their Covid shot, though they have to carry medical documents containing details of date and place of delivery. Maharashtra to treat mucormycosis patients free
In a significant move, the Maharashtra government on Monday informed the Bombay High Court that it will treat all patients suffering from mucormycosis at designated hospitals free of cost besides planning to cap the treatment rates in private hospitals.The treatment will be given at pre-identified hospitals and nursing homes in the state under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and the Pradhan Mantra Jan Arogya Yojana.

Maharashtra records 22,122 COVID-19 cases to take tally above 56 lakh
Maharashtra recorded 22,122 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the state's infection tally beyond the 56-lakh mark to 56,02,019, while 361 more deaths pushed the toll to 89,212, the health department said. Recoveries outnumbered the fresh cases. A statement from the health department said 42,320 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 51,82,592. The state's COVID-19 recovery rate is 92.51 per cent, while the case fatality rate is 1.59 per cent, the department said. Maharashtra is now left with 3,27,580 active cases.
