Pursuant to the IT rules, we are working to implement operational processes and improve efficiencies”.

He further added that facebook remains committed to people's ability to freely and safely express themselves on our platform. For the uninitiated, the government has put some guidelines on the social media companies and kept the deadline as May 25 to comply with them. If in case the companies fail to abide by the guidelines they would lose their intermediary status that provides them exemptions from liabilities for any third-party information and data hosted by them.

In february the government of india has asked social media giants like twitter, facebook, instagram and whatsapp to follow additional due diligence, including the appointment of a chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and resident grievance officer. The sources of the IT Ministry said that appointment of a grievance officer is of primary importance given the importance of public interface for complaints, and also to address the requests.
