Puducherry records 1,237 fresh Covid cases, 26 fatalities

Puducherry received 1,237 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Tuesday, while 26 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 1,237 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Tuesday, while 26 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Fresh cases on Monday pushed the UTs total cases tally past the 98000 mark to 98,219.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,408 after 26 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours. Among them, 16 people did not have any other serious disease.

The active cases tally has mounted to 15,475.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 915 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (222), Yanam (75) and Mahe (25).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said the new cases were identified after testing 9,148 samples and the UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 13.52%.

The official said that 1,5711 patients have also recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the total recoveries to 81,336.

The Director said that. The recovery rate here is 82.81%, while the death rate stood at 1.43%.

The Director of Health Department informed that 34,320 vaccine doses have been given to health workers and 21,173 personnel of advance front. At the same time, 1,39,936 people in the age group 45+ years have been given doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccines.
