AHMEDABAD: Close to 30,000 students of Gujarat University have registered for online exams, a day before the deadline for registration comes to an end. Officials expect the number to touch 32,000 by the end of Tuesday.
The university has decided to extend the deadline for registration from May 21 to May 25 due to cyclone Tauktae that ravaged parts of Saurashtra earlier this week, cutting off power supplies in several areas.
"So far 30,000 students have chosen the online mode of exam. We expect another 2,000-3,000 students to register on the last day," said a GU official. The varsity plans to conduct exams for final year and first-year undergraduate students as well as post-graduate students.
"In all, about 90,000 students are eligible for the summer exams. A large number of students, who have not opted for online mode, will now have to take offline exams," the official added.
The university had given the option between online and in-person exams for students pursuing various courses including BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc, MEd, MCom and MEd.
In addition, 50-minute mock tests comprising 50 questions will be held for students who have registered for the exams and are yet to take this online trial. The state government has recently announced merit-based progression for students in their second, fourth and sixth intermediate semesters in undergraduate courses.
