Elliot Page Shirtless Picture Has Fans Delighted at 'Trans Joy' on Display

Elliot Page has been praised by fans for championing "trans joy" after he shared a shirtless picture of himself on social media.

The Umbrella Academy actor came out as transgender in December 2020, sharing a heartfelt statement about embracing himself online.

"I love that I am trans," he wrote at the time. "And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive."

In the sun-soaked Instagram snap posted on Monday, Page beams poolside as he shows off his abs and swimming trunks.

He captioned the post: "Trans bb's first swim trunks #transjoy #transisbeautiful."

The photograph has been met with a wave of support for the Oscar-nominated actor.

"Man, you are beaming!" Page's Umbrella Academy co-star, Britne Oldford, wrote.

Orange Is the New Black star Ruby Rose posted: "You look phenomenal!!!"

"look a dat handsome boi," actress Ilana Glazer commented.

Singer Miley Cyrus simply commented "hot" with a red heart emoji.

The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev shared two comments, which read: "You look amazing...and most of all happy."

The image, which was shared and liked thousands of times on Twitter, was also hailed by fans.

Twitter user @Diane2Jean wrote: "He deserves this happiness. A terrific role model for all the young trans people out there suffering. It gets better."

Replying to a tweet about Page looking "ripped," user @NotClaudeRains added: "Right? Look at that six pack! It's so awesome to see him finding and embracing his real identity. It's tough enough but to do it in the public eye is really something heroic."

"Oh he's amazing! I'm so happy for him, Elliot looks so happy here!" @disasterlich tweeted.

The photograph comes after Page shared with Time magazine in March that he has undergone top surgery.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, for Apple TV's The Oprah Conversation, Page explained why he felt it was so important for him to come forward with this information.

"I wanted to share with people just how much it has changed my life," he said. "And I want people to know that not only has it been life changing for me, I do believe it is life saving and it's the case for so many people."

He also opened up about his decision to come out in December 2020, highlighting that it was imperative due to ongoing backlash against transgender youth.
