Gurgaon: Two persons were allegedly thrashed by a group of men near Sector 5 crossing in the early hours of Monday in an incident of road rage. Nine people in two cars allegedly blocked the duo’s way and refused to move. When they objected, they were beaten up with iron rods, police said. An FIR has been filed. According to police, the crime took place around 12.30am on Monday near Sector 5 crossing. Sumit Rana, a resident of Bijwasan in New Delhi, and one of his friends who resides in Gurgaon were on their way to Bijwasan from New Palam Vihar. Two cars going in the same direction near the crossing blocked their path and refused to give way to Rana’s car. Rana blew the horn repeatedly and tried to cross them, which allegedly irked the men in the two cars. Nine men stepped out of the cars and started hurling abuses at Rana and his friend. When Rana confronted them, they allegedly punched him in the face. Rana and his friend were dragged out of his car, robbed of cash and a gold chain and allegedly punched and kicked. The men also beat them up with two iron rods, he told police. “We cried for help and a few passersby stopped, but no one came forward to help us,” he added. As the number of people started to increase, the accused men fled. Rana then called up police. A team from Palam Vihar police station soon reached the spot and took them to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. On the basis of his complaint, a case was registered the same day under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 379A (snatching) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at the Palam Vihar police station. “Police are trying to identify the accused men and teams are scanning CCTV footage of the area,” police spokesperson Subhash Boken said.
