- A learner's licence applicant has been arrested after he was caught cheating on his test.
- In an unrelated case, 16-year old teenager was caught clocking 200km/h while on a joyride with friends on Old Strandfontein Road.
- The two suspects were among 202 suspects that the City’s enforcement agencies arrested last week.
A learner's licence applicant in Cape Town has been arrested for fraud after he was caught cheating on his test, while admitting that he was going to use the R2 000 found in his possession to pay for a bribe.
The applicant was arrested last Friday when traffic officials found a script note under his sleeve.
"He was also found in possession of R2 000 in cash, and admitted that he was going to pay the person who gave him the script note," City of Cape Town's Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a 16-year-old driver was arrested on Sunday by traffic officers at the intersection of Old Strandfontein and Ottery Roads, after clocking in excess of 200km/h on Jan Smuts Drive.
"Just before 01:00 on Sunday, 23 May 2021, a Ghost Squad officer spotted the Golf 7 travelling at high speed along Jan Smuts Drive, [in the] direction [of] Grassy Park, and gave chase," said Smith.
Smith said the driver disobeyed several red traffic lights and refused to stop.
"The officer called for back-up and the vehicle was eventually stopped at Old Strandfontein and Ottery Road. To the officers’ dismay, the driver was a very young man, who informed them that he had just turned 16 the day before. He had five passengers in the vehicle, all around the age of 15," Smith added.
It also turned out that the driver had taken his brother's new car without his permission.

The teenager was released into his father's care.
Smith said the two suspects are among 202 suspects that the City's enforcement agencies had arrested over the past week.
Meanwhile, a mini-taxi driver was also arrested on Monday for attempted murder and reckless driving in Brown's Farm.
When officers tried to stop the driver, he drove towards the taxi rank in Brown's Farm, where he abandoned the taxi and fled the scene on foot.
He was later brought to the taxi department by the taxi owner.
Smith said in total, law enforcement officers made 46 arrests, issued 3 561 fines and confiscated nearly 400kg of stolen cables.
Metro police officers made 66 arrests and issued 3 256 fines.
