
POLICE HAVE arrested three persons in connection with alleged incidents of theft at four temples in mid-city areas.
The accused were identified as Rameez Iqbal Hakim Khan (26) and Vinayak Bandu Karale (32), who are both residents of Kasewadi in Bhavani Peth, and Anil Mindha Patel (28) of Budhwar Peth.
According to press release issued by the police, a team led by senior inspector Shrihari Bahirat of Khadak police station arrested Khan for committing theft of valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh and other items from Nakoda Bhairav Jain temple in Ganesh Peth on May 17, and stealing Rs 800 cash from the donation box of Akra Maruti Kopra temple in Shukrawar Peth on May 18.
Police said they have seized cash, a two-wheeler and silver ornaments worth Rs 1.85 lakh from the accused.
A team led by senior inspector Rajendra Landge of Faraskhana police station arrested Patel for committing a theft of Rs 900 at Mhasoba Mitra Mandal Ganesh temple in Budhwar Peth on May 5, police said.
A team of senior inspector Vishnu Tamhane of Samarth police station arrested Karale in connection with theft of ornaments from Shitaladevi temple in Nana Peth on April 27, police added.

Police also said valuables worth Rs 1,93,900 have been recovered from the three accused in the four cases.
