South Africa has recorded 2 894 new Covid-19 infections and 30 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the official death toll to 55 802.
According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Sunday, the country recorded a total of 1 635 465 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The total number of people vaccinated is 647 983, with 5 037 vaccine shots administered in the last 24-hour cycle. Of the total number of vaccinations, 167 318 were administered using the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine under phase two of the national vaccination rollout.
Gauteng recorded the most confirmed active cases with 11 144, followed by the Northern Cape with 7 579 and the Free State with 7 093 cases.

The recovery rate has dropped to 94.1% and 1 539 395 recoveries have been recorded.
To date, 11 354 930 tests have been completed, with 29 355 tests conducted in the last 24-hour cycle, Mkhize said.
Mkhize also reported a further 30 Covid-19-related deaths, of which 20 were recorded in Gauteng, five in the Free State, three in the Western Cape, one in the Eastern Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal.
This brings the total to 55 802 official deaths.
"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Mkhize said.
