Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 jolts Uttarakhand

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 12:31 AM, 44km north northwest of Joshimath in Chamoli District.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 hit Uttarakhand on Monday (May 24) with tremors being felt in several districts across the hill state including Chamoli, Pauri, Garhwal and Dehradun.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 12:31 AM, 44km north northwest of Joshimath in Chamoli District.

The epicentre was 22 km deep at 30.94 (latitude) - 79.44 (longitude). No casualties have been reported so far due to earthquake.

Recently, due to the after-effects of Cyclone Tauktae, Uttarakhand received heavy rains leading to landslides in Chamoli and the closure of the Badrinath highway from three points.

Two glacier also bursted during that period, including the one which happened near Badrinath.
