New Delhi: The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will be implemented in Telangana with the integration of the existing state scheme ‘Aarogyasri’.
According to a statement, the National Health Authority (NHA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to implement the AB PM-JAY in the state and will name the composite scheme Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Aarogyasri.
With this, the scheme has been further expanded and now includes 33 states and union countries.
About 26 beneficiary families (approximately 1.3 million individuals) according to the Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC), 2011 data, may be eligible for services under the scheme in the state.
Beneficiaries are entitled to receive free healthcare coverage of up to 5 lakhs per family within one year for hospitalization in secondary and tertiary care. Health services can be used in any of the 22,000 public and private hospitals with an emblem, across the country, through the scheme’s portability function.
About the initiative, dr. RS Sharma, chief executive of the National Health Authority, said beneficiaries are now eligible for free health care services through a network of more than 22,000 hospitals.
‘This will not only benefit the families in the state, but also the provision of health services to PM-JAY beneficiaries from other states / UTs living in Telangana. The supplier base has also increased. “Our call center has received calls from the eligible population in the state,” he added.
While the state’s population is eligible for free health care services across the country, the introduction of a comprehensive scheme will lead to the effective use of resources to provide quality health care services, the statement said.
