Bid farewell to May with versatile releases from multiple genres coming your way

Among the new releases this week, fans of thrillers are in for a treat as two brand new shows—Ghost Lab and Panic—are primed for release. Bollywood’s content library will see the addition of a new Huma Qureshi led political drama titled, Maharani, and acclaimed series like Lucifer, Ragnarok, and Broken But Beautiful are set to return with new episodes as well. Here’s everything you need to watch out for this week on your favourite OTT platforms. 

1. Baggio: The Divine Ponytail (May 26)

This biographical sports drama chronicles the illustrious 22-year long career of Italian footballer, Roberto Baggio. Often regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he inspired an entire generation to fall in love with the sport and was labelled as "The Divine Ponytail" owing to his distinctive hairstyle. The plot derives its structure from all the ups and downs that shaped Baggio's time as a player, including his struggles as a debutant, intensive altercations with coaches, and more.

2. Ghost Lab (May 26)

Showcasing the dangers of obsession, Ghost Lab sketches out the tale of two doctors, Gla and Wee, who latch on to a common goal after witnessing a haunting in their hospital. The incident propels them to unearth scientific evidence for their experience, thus, proving the existence of an afterlife. What kicks off as a passion project soon transforms into a monstrous fixation, slowly ripping away at the threads of their sanity and existence.

3. Ek Mini Katha (May 27) 

Sexual insecurities can hinder one's ability to function normally, and Santosh will go to any lengths to mask his. Extremely underconfident about his penis size, he chucks the idea of getting married altogether until he falls for Amrutha. The Telugu original then dives into his efforts to undergo a penis enlargement surgery to have a happy and stressless married life, resulting in hilarious consequences.

4. Ragnarok season 2 (May 27)

A unique take on classic Norse mythology, this fantasy drama revolves around Magne—a teenager whose life is drastically affected when he realises he's a living embodiment of the God of Thunder, Thor. Residing in the fictional Norwegian town of Edda, he starts investigating the local Jotul family whose factories are responsible for severe climate alterations and industrial tainting in the area. After an unfortunate death occurs, Magne identifies the members of the elusive family to be a band of entities called Jötnar, manipulating the planet to cause the titular apocalypse in the modern age.

5. Disney's Launchpad (May 28)

A collection of six short films, Launchpad brings forth six first-time filmmakers from diverse communities to bestow upon the audience, a compilation of extraordinarily unique tales that deal with being accepted and seen. The stories—American Eid, Dinner is Served, Growing Fangs, The Last of the Chupacabras, Let's Be Tigers, and The Little Prince(SS)—aim to highlight the bond we share as human beings in a world that tends to discriminate against certain religions, ethnicities, skin colours, and more. The chosen directors for season one were shortlisted by Disney after a rigorous selection process.

6. Dog Gone Trouble (May 28)

One for the dog lovers, this earnest animated feature deals with a pampered pooch, Trouble, who ends up on the streets after his wealthy owner, Mrs Sarah Vanderwhoozie, passes away due to natural causes. Her vicious niece and nephew soon show up to inherit the fortune but are told that they need to connect and look after Trouble to rightfully claim what they desire, within three days. Realising he's missing, the wicked duo hires a professional animal tracker to bring back the dog who is trying to fend for himself in the unknown lanes of the city.

7. Lucifer season 5 part 2 (May 28)

The latter half of Lucifer's fifth season returns and the Lord of Hell is finally set to meet his father, God, after millennia. The previous episode left off with Lucifer and his elder sibling, Amenadiel facing off against Michael (Lucifer's twin brother) only for the almighty father to show up and intervene. The remaining eight episodes will touch upon God's decision to retire, causing Lucifer and Michael to go to war and claim the position of humanity's new maker.

8. Maharani (May 28)

Huma Qureshi leads this political drama set in the ’90s as Rani Bharti—a simpleton who ends up becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar. An illiterate homemaker and the wife of Bihar's current CM, Rani concerns herself with nothing more than her duties towards her home and her husband. After a life-threatening attack, the CM is bedridden and nominates Rani to succeed him. Thus begins the journey of an illiterate woman facing off against the corrupt structure of Indian politics while curating a name for herself as she tackles every obstacle.

9. Panic (May 28)

Graduation is supposed to be a new adventure in the lives of senior students but the locals of a small town called Carp, in Texas, have a tradition of putting a minacious twist on it. This thrilling web series revolves around a dangerous game called Panic that offers the town's graduating class to win a life-changing amount of money every year. Participation is free for all but the tasks put these students face to face with their deepest fears. When the games begin, the enigmatic secret behind the event and the town comes to light. The show is based on Lauren Oliver's 2014 novel of the same name.

10. Broken But Beautiful season 3 (May 29)

The Ekta Kapoor created romantic drama is back for a third outing with a brand new cast and story. The crux of the show centres around Agastya (Sidharth Shukla) and Rumi (Sonia Rathee) who come from conflicting worlds but develop feelings for each other. Their respective struggles hinder their dynamic in numerous ways, intertwining their fates into a complicated muddle. As they decide to call it quits for good, the harrowing effort required to fall out of love with the other causes a much-needed awakening.
