11 inmates of Madurai children’s home test positive for Covid-19

MADURAI: Eleven girls in a home run by a non-governmental organization at Samayanallur in Madurai district have tested positive for Covid-19. Three woman staff members of the home have also tested positive for the infection. All of them have been shifted to Covid care centres.
District child protection officials are in the process of sending 14 girl children, who have tested negative, to their respective houses. Two more children, who are orphans, will be continued to be taken care of by the NGO.
Officials of the district children protection unit said two children and a staff member had reported symptoms of Covid-19 three days ago. Subsequently, they tested positive. Swab samples were collected from all the remaining children and staff on Sunday.
The entire premises of the children home would be disinfected after shifting the children.
Officials added that children in most of the homes had been sent home. Children are staying only in a few homes. Strict precautionary measures are being taken in such homes, according to them.
