Chandigarh, May 23

The Non-Government Colleges’ Managements Federation of Punjab and Chandigarh has urged Higher Education Minister Tript Rajinder Bajwa to defer the decision taken by the department to make a common portal of the three universities of Punjab for centralised admission in all degree colleges affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

A delegation led by senior vice-president Rajindermohan Singh Chhina and secretary Gurvinder Singh Sarna submitted a memorandum to Bajwa. It was pointed out that due to Covid crisis and the temptation of greener pastures abroad, the strength of the colleges was decreasing. “The fee-paying capacity of parents has reduced and with this decision, the number of students seeking admission in colleges will drop even further,” Chhina said. — TNS
