CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday issued an order allowing public distribution outlets to function from 8am to noon.
Cardholders, who have not received the Covid-19 relief of Rs 2,000, can avail the amount during the intense lockdown period, besides the essential commodities.
An official release said the police permission would be granted to staff, including workers carrying gunny bags. All district collectors have been advised to distribute the essential commodities to the cardholders and the Covid relief without any interruptions.
“Public are asked to follow standard operating procedures, including maintaining physical distance and wearing masks, while getting the commodities at PDS outlets,” the release said. The cardholders must act with utmost caution and carry a PDS card without fail.
The government allowed the insurance institutions to work with one third of staff like banking institutions.
