Building on the success of the pathbreaking 2019 conference on Managed Retreat, the 2021 conference will address the scientific, social and policy issues around managed retreat from areas severely affected by climate change. A major initiative of the Columbia Climate School and the Earth Institute, it will bring together stakeholders from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, together with scientists, academics and community representatives. There will be a major emphasis on issues of environmental justice. Some 240 participants will make presentations at more than 40 panels and other events.
