Soon after its launch in April alongside the Apple 4K TV, the Siri remote made some headlines for not including the U1 chip. Apple redesigned the Siri remote, made it thicker, but offered no room for the chip that serves a great purpose.

The U1 chip uses Ultra-Wideband technology for spatial awareness to precisely locate and communicate with other U1-equipped devices or other devices that support ultra-wideband. But Apple chose not to add built-in AirTag functionality to its new Siri remote, thus making it more vulnerable to misplacements that usually happen with a TV remote.

It is very easy to lose it anywhere. Losing it in the abyss of your couch is pretty common, but Apple believes this might not happen in the case of the new Siri remote because it now features a thicker body, which hinders it from getting lost into your couch. Tim Twerdahl, Apple Vice President of Product Marketing for Home and Audio explained in an interview with MobileSyrup.

But is it thick enough to not get vanished into thin air? What about the other cases of it getting lost? There are many other scenarios too where we just put the TV remotes and forget.

Also, is it thick enough to not get lost even into your thick cushioned couch? Different couches have different designs, which means the new Siri remote still can go anywhere in the dark abyss of your couch.

Or does Apple think that we are going to search our couches anyway, with or without the U1 chip, just because this is the most commonplace for a TV remote to get vanished easily?

Another reason that the executive put up is that the ‘Find My Network’ (with the help of which the lost items are located) is designed for outside use more. And, we believe this reason doesn’t seem to be viable either.
