VARANASI: At least four patients suffering black fungus infection- mucormycosis- infection lost the battle from Saturday till Sunday morning while 78 were under treatment at the Banaras Hindu University hospital. Four patients are also admitted in private hospitals. The medical superintendent of BHU hospital Prof KK Gupta said, “A 55-year-old man from Mau and a 45-year-old patient from Ghazipur died of black fungus infection on Sunday. Before it two patients in super specialty ward, where Covid-19 positive cases are being treated in level-3 facility, lost the battle on Saturday. One of them suffered from kidney ailment while other was epileptic.” With it the total toll due to black fungus at this hospital has reached to six so far, he said adding, nine surgeries of patients with black fungus infection have been conducted at ENT department of the hospital. Till Sunday afternoon the total number of confirmed black fungus infected patients had reached to 84 of which six died so far, he said adding, 39 of them are Covid-19 positive and kept in super specialty block while others are kept in post-Covid care ward.
