CHENNAI: The Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund has received Rs 181 crore as donation from individuals, industries and others to help Tamil Nadu in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
On May 11, chief minister M K Stalin appealed to all to donate to the fund as the state battled increasing healthcare expenditure due to the increasing Covid numbers.
A release from the state government on Sunday evening said it had released Rs 50 crore towards buying RT-PCR testing kits, after the state increased the tests undertaken daily to 1.6 lakh. It had earlier sanctioned Rs 50 crore towards buying critical drugs for treatment of Covid patients including remdesivir and another Rs 50 crore towards transporting oxygen from other states.
In the wake of the total lockdown imposed in the state from May 24 -31, chief minister Stalin urged those keen to donate to the relief fund to do so through online fund transfer and not to come to meet him in person to hand over cheques.
