Chandumajra:Modi must negotiate & junk farm laws in interest of all & ensure ryots' exit

Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) Senior Akali Dal leader and former MP from Anandpur Sahib Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra Sunday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to shed his ego and reject the farm laws to save the protesting farmers sitting on the door-steps of the national capital for the last six months in the raging Covid pandemic.
He must respond to the initiative from farmers to reopen dialogue, he said.

He said, “These laws were thrust on the farmers of India within weeks of this pandemic having hit India that has taken thousands of lives. There was no emergency to bring out these laws yet the ordinance route was resorted to that was undemocratic. The result of that action to appease the corporates is now before the country. These laws should be scrapped the way these were implemented as the same have been rejected by the very people for whose welfare these were introduced. It is time that the return of the farmers to their homes is facilitated by withdrawing these disastrous laws. The lives of the farmers are more precious than the ego of a leader, how-so—ever powerful he might be”.

He underscored it was a war like situation that must be confronted rising above party and other interests unitedly. Moreover, India being predominantly rural, more precautions were needed in villages. This pandemic had already penetrated the countryside and started playing havoc.
He referred to the statement issued by the farmers organisations to Prime Minister favouring re-opening of dialogue and said this opportunity must not be wasted.
He said Modi should rise to the occasion and respond positively to the letter from the farmers organisations and open the channel.
Prof Chandumajra said these laws should be reformulated later in consultation with the farmers leaders, especially from the states like Punjab, Haryana and Western UP that are directly affected due to these adverse laws.
