GUWAHATI: Assam Police and Assam Rifles in a joint operation gunned down six cadres of Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), a rebel outfit operating in Assam’s hill district of Dima Hasao, early on Sunday.
The incident took place at Michibailung where combing operations by police and AR personnel are on.

Assam Police special DG GP Singh in a tweet said, "In an early morning operation by @assampolice and Assam Rifles, six DNLA terrorists were neutralised in Dhansiri area of Karbi Anglong district. Large cache of arms & ammunition also recovered."

The DNLA was formed in 2019 after the previous rebel outfits like the two factions of Dima Halam Daogah–Nunsia and Garlosa signed a memorandum of settlement with the centre and disbanded the organisations.
Another outfit Dima Jadi Naiso Army came into being in 2012, which is no longer active.
DNLA is demanding a "sovereign, independent Dimasa Nation" while the earlier outfits were mainly seeking a separate state of Dimaraji by including all areas in the northeast covering parts of Nagaon district of Assam and Dimapur in Nagaland which are inhabited by Dimasa tribe people.
The DNLA has also established a 'government-in-exile' called 'Dimasa Peoples' Supreme Council.'
