Government to launch new income tax e-Filing website What it means for you
Government has announced that it is launching a new website for income tax e-filing. The official website will have a new URL--"https://www.incometax.gov.in"-- and it will replace the existing one--"https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in". Note that both the websites are based on the secured HTTPS protocol and not HTTP. The new website is scheduled to go live on June 7, 2021.

Income Tax e-filing services will be down for 6 days

The Income Tax department also said that the existing Income Tax website-- https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in-- will not be working between June 1 and June 6, 2021. You will not be able access the e-filing services during this period of time. The Income Tax department advised citizens to plan their work accordingly, so that, if they need to access ITR services or submit a response, they will need to do so either by May 31, 2021 or after June 7, 2021.

The government has already extended the deadline for issuing Form 16 by companies by one month to July 15, 2021. Also, the due date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2020-21 for individuals has been extended to September 30, 2021. The last date ITR filing by companies has been extended to November 30, 2021.

As for the new website, it is expected that the ITR filing process will be kept similar to the old website. However, it is very important that citizens visit the correct official website for income tax e-filing-- "https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in". Also, note that the official email address that the Income tax department uses to send emails, alerts and other notifications is "DONOTREPLY@incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in". If you get any email regarding ITR always verify the sender's email address first in order to prevent phishing attempts.
