May 23—Longmont police on Saturday assisted in the arrest of a man who was reported to have stolen a truck at knifepoint in Louisville.

Longmont police Sgt. Billy Sawyer said that the white man, who is in his 20s or 30s, was reported to have threatened a person with a knife in Louisville and stolen the victim's Nissan pickup truck. After the reported theft, the man drove to Longmont and then began heading west on Colo. 66 toward Lyons.

Authorities used stop sticks just before the man entered Lyons in the truck. The stop sticks flattened the driver's side front and back tires, which led to the truck stopping near the entrance of LaVern Johnson Park, 600 Park Drive.

Sawyer said when police asked the man to put down his knife, he didn't comply until Longmont police told the man they would be deploying a K-9. Sawyer said the man then dropped the weapon and got on the ground. He was arrested about 7 p.m. without further incident and taken to Boulder County Jail.

Sawyer said Louisville police are handling the majority of the case and the investigation. He said he wasn't sure of the exact charges issued against the man.
