GUWAHATI: The Janasankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF), the organization which is at the forefront in the battle against population explosion in India and persistently demanding a strict population control law in the country has appealed to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to enforce the population policy, which was passed by the assembly in four years back. The previous BJP-led government in the state had announced that people with more than two children will be ineligible for government jobs and this policy will come into effect from January 1, 2021 as provided in the “Population and Women Empowerment Policy of Assam’’, which was passed by the house in 2017. JSF national chairman Anil Chowdhury said, “We can be proud of the fat that at the request of the Janasankhya Samadhan Foundation, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma enacted a law in the last Legislative Assembly to prevent population explosion (as health minister IN 2017) and now he is the chief minister of Assam. We are also grateful to him as he is the only politician, who had voiced the concern of JSF in the northeast India while campaigning in the last assembly elections in the state. We believe that every step taken by him for the protection and betterment of bhumiputra (sons of the soil) in the days to come will be written in golden letters.”
