Hyderabad: A Hyderabad-based NGO has stepped forward to help COVID-19 patients by giving them two homemade meals daily.
Aashri Society worked for the poor and gave meals twice. Furthermore, with the implementation of lock-in in the state, the Aashri Association also feeds the poor with cooked food along with the feeding of the Covid Positive patients.
The president of the Aashri Association, Kandula Ram Kishor Reddy, told ANI: “The association aims to feed the poor and need free cooked food. ‘We initially started feeding 23 Covid positive patients on April 4th. Later, the number Covid patients we feed daily also increased to 259. ”
He said that many poor people are unable to feed themselves as many are dependent on daily wages.
‘So we decided to feed the poor people during the lock-up. We are also provided with free food in various hospitals in Hyderabad, ”he added. He said about 600 cooked food parcels are handed out to the poor people daily.
He mentioned that to date, more than 1 lakh of cooked food parcels has been distributed to the needy and poor. He further said that Kishor along with his wife after the suggestion of his doctor friend to provide nutritious food to the poor, came up with the idea of providing homemade food.
He mentioned that all the expenses used to feed the poor come from their own savings. ‘To date, we have about Rs. 21 lakh to help the poor, most of which are our savings. ”
He mentioned that they do not ask for donations, and if any person comes forward to help them with donations, the service will be done under the name of the donor. He said that some individuals after knowledge of the works of the Aashri Society came forward to help them with donations.
Kishor further appealed to people to come forward and help those in need during these difficult times.
“This is the best time for anyone to come forward and go to the poor and needy, as many of them are suffering,” he added.
Aashri Society was established in 2011 and since then the NGO has been offering various services to people. Kishor said that in addition to serving food to the poor, society also has an orphanage where orphans and semi-orphans are provided for food and education. The association also provides electric wheelchairs to victims of muscular dystrophy through companies.
Prapurna Kishor, the founder of Aashri Society, said that under the roof of society many social activities are done for the better life of needy and poor. During the Covid pandemic, society helps people by providing food, groceries, medicine.
