When is it time to get a trainer?

I’m going to be very transparent. Please don’t be mean to me because I’m kind of sensitive to insults.

I tried consistently going to the gym but I can’t build muscle. I look the exact same as when I joined this forum.

My diet: I eat clean and get 100g of protein a day. I’ll be honest, I struggled with binge eating desserts during weekends, so my weight always fluctuated, but I always stayed around 140-150.

    I’m currently 139.6lbs male 5’5” and 22 years old.

Another problem I’ve faced is that I could never make up my mind on what to do with my diet. I frequently switch between maintenance, cut and (accidentally) bulk (from the weekend sugar binge).

I’m happy to say that I recently gained control of the binging. I quit sugar because it was messing my body and causing bloat.

My highest I squatted was 165-175 for 3x8

Bench...super weak. I was never able to reach higher than total weight (including bar) 95lbs. I don’t know why. Maybe my form? Maybe I was scared to hurt myself?

I’m probably around 20% bodyfat. Skinny fat.

I don’t want to bulk because I’m so fat. My belly is huge and my boobs are big too.

I know I made countless threads in the past about bulk vs cut.

Please give me one more chance. I would really appreciate advice.

My diet was mostly good...except for the binging. So I guess it wasn’t all that good.

My training...I was consistent...but I wasn’t making progress. I notice I start a new program and go back down in my weights. I don’t know if it’s in my head but I feel like my body can’t catch up to the progressive overload. I just back down in weight after a while because my forms isn’t good with higher weights...but I think it’s good with lower? Probably not. I don’t know.

As I said: I weight 139.6lbs and I have been trying to lose weight for 3-4 weeks so far. I only recently started consistently counting my calories again. I noticed I kept overeating my calorie limit every day.

My biggest struggle is not being confident in my decision. I tend to switch plans because I think that it won’t work. What’s a guy to do if he wants to build muscle but also lose fat? When I gain weight I gain fat and when I lose weight...I just look the same but in a smaller proportion.

My big insecurity is my big butt and thighs. I would NOT want to bulk up. I look so fat.

It's always a good time to get a trainer right? At least study to become a trainer, so you understand the basic of designing a program, and understanding proper biomechanics.

Thanks. I uploaded new photos taken right now to my “progress photos” in my profile.

    I assume I’m 20% bodyfat.

Hey man, don’t be so hard on yourself. Just compete with who you are right now so that tomorrow You’ll be be bigger, stronger, leaner overall.

Keep it simple, try something like this:

    Monday - upper
    Tuesday- lower
    Wed- rest
    Thurs - upper
    Fri- lower
    Sat -rest
    Sun- rest

    Food:
Meal one - eggs, oatmeal, fruit
    Meal two- tuna, salad, rice
    Meal three- chicken, yams, broccoli
Meal four- whey shake, nuts, yogurt
Meal five- steak, rice, green beans

Pick two or three movements for large muscle groups, two movements for smaller ones, and train hard and heavy, 6-10 reps at most.

Keep records of sets, reps, wits, body wt and calories.

Look in the mirror, take progress photos. Study YouTube and read stuff for motivation.Good luck.

You let whims dictate and change your planning. You already know this. Nothing will improve unless you address this. You know this as well.

a good coach is always valuable.

an average PT however rarely is, more likely to learn bad habbbits than good
