Mahindra Thar Design Issue In Australia With Jeep: Official Statement Released By The Brand

According to the earlier report, Mahindra is said to have asked people in Australia to register their interest in buying the Thar SUV. As a result, Jeep approached the Federal Court of Australia to stop the Indian automaker from launching the Thar.

The Jeep demanded a 90-day notice period before starting the sales of the off-road SUV in Australia. In response to this, Mahindra has issued an official statement clearing the air on all the speculations.

The official statement from the brand said, "We're seeing very strong demand for the all-new Thar 2020 in India, therefore have no immediate plans for the launch of the current variant of the Thar in markets outside India. As a result, it was pointless to engage in litigation at this stage."

It further stated, "When we decide to launch any new variant of the Thar in Australia, we will provide 90 days' notice to FCA and take all steps to protect our rights to market and sell the product. This has no bearing on our plans in Australia as we continue to pursue expansion of our business across several vehicle categories."

From Mahindra's statement, it will not look to launch the Thar in Australia or any other overseas market in its current generation yet. Instead, it will be concentrating on catering to the massive demand in its home market.

However, the brand had not completely ruled out the sale of the Thar off-road SUV overseas. If it decides to launch the Thar in Australia, it had agreed to provide FCA with a 90-day notice. With the official statement from the brand, all speculations have been put to rest.

Speaking about the Mahindra Thar, the off-road SUV has been well received because of its new design, features, powertrain options. The new-gen Thar has come so far ahead of the previous model that it can now be used as a daily driver along with all the off-road capabilities.

The new-gen Thar is offered in petrol and diesel engine options. This 2.0-litre T-GDi mStallion turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum of 150bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm.
