Formula 1 Monaco GP 2021: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to take pole position, Hamilton to start 7th

Formula 1 Monaco GP 2021 LIVE: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc wins Qualifier 3, Max Verstappen second- Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has won the third qualifier and he will take the pole position in the main race on Sunday. Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas will take the second spot in the upcoming race. Charles Leclerc has his 8th pole position; and his and Ferrari’s first since Mexico 2019. Championship leader Lewis Hamilton will start 7th.

“It’s a shame to finish in the wall, it doesn’t feel the same! But at the same time I’m incredibly happy about my lap “I am [worried about the gearbox], but let’s see, “ Leclerc said post qualifiers.

“It was all going really well [but] the red flag ruined the chance for pole. Nevertheless I think, so far, it’s a good weekend. We’ve recovered well from Thursday,” saidVerstappen.

“It’s disappointing I didn’t get my last run with the red flag, that’s how it is sometimes… “We’ll try everything we can tomorrow, it’s Monaco – anything can happen,” added Bottas.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc wins Qualifier 2, Max Verstappen second- Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has won the Qualifier 2 after missing out in the 1st qualifiers. Max Verstappen dropped to second place while Valtteri Bottas finished 3rd.

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas leads after qualifier 1, Charles Leclerc second- Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has emerged victorious in the 1st qualifier while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen are placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Formula 1 Monaco GP 2021 LIVE: Charles Leclerc delivered on Ferrari’s shock Monaco Grand Prix pace to take a brilliant pole position in his home race – but his delight was tempered slightly when he ended the session in the barriers.

The Monegasque put together the fastest lap of the weekend with his first run in Q3 but pushed a little too hard on his second run, clipping the Armco as he turned into the chicane, which broke his front suspension sending him across the kerb and into the barrier on the other side.

That incident brought out the red flag with less than a minute to go, ending the session prematurely and preventing anyone – including Max Verstappen who was purple in sector one – from completing their final lap.

As a result, Leclerc held onto pole, Ferrari’s first since the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix, making him the first Monegasque on pole in Monaco since Louis Chiron (whom Leclerc’s helmet for this weekend is dedicated to) in 1936.

Formula 1 Monaco GP 2021 LIVE: However, it remains unclear how significant the damage is to his Ferrari and whether or not he will incur grid penalties for the changing of parts.

Verstappen ended up second, in what is his first front row in Monaco, with Valtteri Bottas the leading Mercedes and completing the top three. Reigning world champion and championship leader Lewis Hamilton ended up down in seventh, starting outside the top six for the fist time since the 2018 German Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz, who was one of the drivers who had to abort following his team mate’s crash, was fourth – his highest grid slot in the Principality. However, it is the first time he has been outqualified by a team mate around the streets of Monaco.

Lando Norris in the Gulf Oil liveried McLaren was sixth, the team’s best Monaco start since 2012, with Pierre Gasly making it three top six starts in five Grands Prix.

Sebastian Vettel has looked the strongest he has all season this weekend – and he continued that momentum with eighth on the grid, having only escaped Q1 by 0.018s. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi completed the top 10.

Formula 1 Monaco GP 2021 schedule, India time, Practice Time, Date, F1 live streaming: After a captivating start in Bahrain, Imola, Portugal and Spain, F1 returns to the famous streets of Monaco. The Monaco Grand Prix was cancelled last year due to Covid-19, the first time ever since 1954. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen had gone head-to-head in every race so far this season until he watched a video compilation of the four Grands Prix that showed them dicing with each other.

It’s been quite the start to the year, with proper battles for the lead of the race between two drivers from two different teams, who are delivering a rivalry many have been hoping for over the last few years.

So far, Hamilton has had the edge in their battle, winning three out of four races. And so far, they’ve avoided coming to blows – either on or off the track. But in Monaco, there were the first signs of some tension between the two.

Tyres:

Soft:

The softest of the three available dry compounds, the P Zero Red Soft tyres are also the mandatory Q3 compound – competitors reaching qualifying’s final shootout receive one set of this compound for use in Q3 only for their final attempts to take pole position. Whilst this will be the tyre of choice to achieve maximum out-and-out pace during a weekend, endurance is limited and timing a pit stop to change to one of the other compounds at the optimum point will be key to overall race performance.

Medium:

Each weekend, the P Zero Yellow Medium tyres will aim to strike the balance between performance and durability. Competitors who can make this tyre work well could end up with an advantage over their rivals by giving themselves greater strategic options through qualifying and the race.

Hard:

The P Zero White Hard tyres are the hardest of the available compounds, and are therefore likely to be the slowest for outright single-lap pace, but the most durable for long runs.
