NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Delhi assembly, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has asked the Delhi government to declare mucormycosis, the fungal infection being reported in Covid-19 patients, an epidemic.
He asked the government to call an all-party meeting to discuss Covid-19 management in the wake of fears of the third Covid wave goingn to soon hit the capital.
Even though the Covid cases are declining, daily Covid deaths continue to remain high which is a matter of serious concern. CM Arvind Kejriwal should immediately convene an all-party meeting which should include experts and scientists to discuss the action plan to deal with the third Covid wave, Bidhuri said in a statement on Saturday.
Delhi currently has nearly 200 cases of black fungus and anxiety among Covid recovered patients particularly those who received steroids during treatment is growing. Experts have advised Covid-19 patients not to use steroids without doctor’s advice and monitor and control their blood sugar levels to prevent the infection that can be fatal.
“The rise in the number of black fungus cases in Delhi is also a very disturbing development. Till date, more than 200 cases of black fungus have been discovered in Delhi. It is shocking that the Delhi government has not declared the black fungus disease as an epidemic even though experts are warning that this could take a turn for the worse. The government must declare black fungus an epidemic by making it a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897,” Bidhuri stated.
The BJP leader said the third wave could target children so the government should make advance preparations. “In the meeting experts and scientists can forward their point of view and help the government in putting in place a formal strategy to deal with the emerging situation. It is only with advance planning and necessary preparations that the government will be able to protect the children and others from the next Covid wave,” Bidhuri said.
